Public Sector Mapping Agreement (PSMA)

On 1 April this year the Ordnance Survey (OS) launched the new Public Sector Mapping Agreement (PSMA). This initiative gives public bodies access to OS maps and data available completely free of charge. For fans of acronyms, the PSMA replaces the old PGA, MSA and GLA.

The public bodies that will benefit from access to this data include community, parish and local councils, the emergency services, health authorities, development agencies, environmental organisations, local authorities and government departments.

Uses of PSMA maps and data:

  • Map and manage existing assets
  • View and print data
  • Aid strategic decision making:

  • Share compatible information across departments and agencies – reducing paperwork and increasing workflow efficiencies
  • Promoting data sustainability by avoiding duplication and encouraging re-use of information
  • View internal data within a wider context by incorporating Ordnance Survey data:

  • Relate mapped features to internal files or associated websites which provide additional information

Once you’ve completed the form you can access maps at various scales together with address and postcode information. The products available are:

  • OS MasterMap® Topography Layer
  • OS VectorMap® Local
  • 1:10 000 Scale Raster1
  • 1:25 000 Scale Colour Raster
  • 1:50 000 Scale Colour Raster
  • Code-Point®
  • Code-Point® with polygons
  • OS MasterMap Address Layer
  • OS MasterMap Address Layer 2

However, in order to put this free data to work you will need technical services and tools – and that’s where FIND comes in.

Accessing Ordnance Survey PMSA data under the 'FIND Public Sector Mapping' portal has a number of advantages:

  • Translating and processing the OS raw data
  • Managing all updates
  • Delivering data via a customised web portal
  • Providing a set of high quality mapping tools
  • Providing WMS/WFS feeds to your own applications

Designed for public non-commercial use, is free service that utilises only a small sample of available Ordnance Survey maps and data.
